The 1.2-km stretch of SG Highway between YMCA Junction and Karnavati Club Junction, which has been closed for the past eight months due to elevated corridor construction, is expected to reopen for traffic from August 1.
Officials said the project was delayed after workers encountered an extremely hard rock layer while digging for the ramp pillars. A special diamond drilling machine had to be brought in to cut through the rock, delaying the work. The project, which was earlier expected to be completed by July 30, is now likely to finish by September 30.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had initially received permission from the Traffic Police for a six-month traffic diversion, but the road has remained closed for eight months.
Because of the closure, around 1.5 lakh motorists have been taking a 4-km longer route every day, leading to increased travel time and fuel expenses.
