The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a major road-widening project on the stretch connecting Sabarmati Toll Plaza (Janpath Three Roads) to Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. The existing 18-metre-wide road will be expanded to 61 metres under the Road Development Plan (RDP) and Town Planning (TP) scheme to improve traffic flow and enhance the approach to the stadium.
More than 50 commercial properties falling within the road line had earlier been served notices. Authorities had initially urged traders to remove the affected portions of their structures voluntarily.
On Wednesday morning, teams from AMC’s Western Zone Estate Department, accompanied by JCB machines and heavy machinery, began demolishing commercial encroachments and structures obstructing the widening work.
Officials said the expanded road will significantly improve connectivity to Narendra Modi Stadium and help ensure smoother traffic management during major national and international events.
