The arrival of monsoon has triggered increased crocodile movement across Vadodara, with sightings reported at three locations, including the rescue of a 9-foot crocodile from a residential area on Vasna Road.Vadodara, which has one of the largest crocodile populations in the state, often sees such incidents during the rainy season. Forest officials say crocodiles prefer calm waters, but the influx of fresh rainwater into rivers and lakes increases water flow, forcing them to move in search of safer habitats.
A 9-foot crocodile was spotted near Galaxy Bungalows, close to Navrachana School on Vasna Road, late on Tuesday night. Residents alerted the Gauraksha Samiti, whose members rescued the reptile after a lengthy operation and informed the Forest Department.Separate crocodile sightings were also reported near the Tandalja bus stand and on the Padra-Ghayaj Road, where videos of the reptiles went viral on social media.
Vadodara Range Forest Officer Anita Baria said Forest Department teams are on round-the-clock duty during the monsoon and urged residents to immediately contact the department or authorised animal rescue organisations if they spot crocodiles or other aquatic animals, instead of approaching them.
