India has slipped to 125th place in the Global Passport Index 2026, with Indian passport holders enjoying visa-free access to just 26 destinations, highlighting the country’s relatively limited global travel mobility.
The latest rankings underscore the wide gap in travel freedom between countries. European nations continue to dominate the index, with their passports offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to the largest number of destinations worldwide.
Canada ranked 13th in the latest index, maintaining a strong position among the world’s most powerful passports.
The rankings once again highlight the disparity in international mobility, as travellers from countries such as India continue to face stricter visa requirements for entry into many parts of the world compared with passport holders from Europe and several other developed nations.
