A portion of a bridge on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway near Ankleshwar collapsed on Thursday, damaging the road surface and disrupting traffic.
The incident took place between Adol and Piludra villages, where a section of the concrete slab gave way, creating a gap of nearly 7–8 feet and exposing the steel reinforcement bars.A tempo travelling on the newly built Delhi–Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway hit the damaged section and lost control, overturning on the highway.Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) reached the spot soon after the incident, and a technical team has been assigned to investigate the cause of the damage. Repair work is expected to begin after the inspection is completed.
The incident has raised concerns among local residents over the quality of construction on the expressway. The damaged bridge is part of the Kim–Bharuch (Package 5) stretch, which was opened to traffic earlier this year.
