The Gujarat government has appointed Anupamsinh Gehlot, the current Police Commissioner of Surat, as the new Police Commissioner of Ahmedabad. The state government announced his appointment on Wednesday.
A 1997-batch IPS officer, Gehlot will now be in charge of maintaining law and order and ensuring the security of Ahmedabad city.
The post of Ahmedabad Police Commissioner had remained vacant for nearly 25 days after former commissioner G. S. Malik was promoted as the state’s Director General of Police (DGP). The government has now filled the post by transferring Gehlot to Ahmedabad.
With Gehlot’s appointment, the position of Surat Police Commissioner has fallen vacant. The state government is yet to announce the name of his successor.
Before serving in Surat, Anupamsinh Gehlot also held the post of Police Commissioner in Vadodara and Rajkot, giving him extensive experience in policing major cities across Gujarat.
