Padma Shri Dr Pankaj M. Shah, one of India’s leading cancer specialists and a renowned medical oncologist and hematologist, has passed away. He had over 50 years of experience in the field of medicine and was widely respected for his contribution to cancer care.
Dr Shah was serving as the Vice President of the Gujarat Cancer Society. He was also an oncologist at Zydus Hospital, Ahmedabad, and Professor Emeritus of Medical Oncology at the Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute (GCRI).
Awarded Padma Shri in 2018
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to medicine, the Government of India honoured Dr Shah with the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian award, in 2018.
Over his distinguished career, he received several prestigious honours, including the Dr B.C. Roy Award, India’s highest medical award, in 2005. He was also honoured with the Madan Mohan Ramanlal GCRI Luminary Oration Award in 2002 and the Excellence in Oncology Award by Ruby Hall in 2007.
Dr Pankaj M. Shah’s death is a major loss to the medical community. He will be remembered for his lifelong dedication to cancer treatment, medical research and patient care.
