Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel flagged off 30 new air-conditioned electric buses from GSFC Gate No. 1 during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Vadodara. The buses have been introduced by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation under the Central Government’s flagship PM eBus Seva Scheme to promote sustainable and eco-friendly public transport.
To meet the city’s growing public transport demand, the Centre has increased Vadodara’s allocation under the scheme from 100 to 250 AC electric buses. In the first phase, 130 buses will be inducted into the city’s fleet.
Powered by zero-emission technology, the new electric buses are expected to reduce Vadodara’s carbon footprint while offering commuters a cleaner, quieter and more comfortable travel experience. Each bus is fully air-conditioned and equipped with modern safety features, including CCTV cameras, a Passenger Counting System, a Driver Monitoring System, fire extinguishers and first-aid kits.
The buses have also been designed with accessibility and passenger convenience in mind. They are wheelchair-friendly, with reserved seating for Divyangs and senior citizens, along with dedicated “Pink Seats” for women. Select buses are fitted with hydraulic lifts and ramps to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Passengers will benefit from a range of smart features, including digital ticketing, GPS-enabled live tracking and a Passenger Information System for real-time announcements. Tickets can be purchased through cash, UPI, smart cards and mobile applications.
To support the operation of the electric fleet, dedicated charging infrastructure has been developed at Gotri, Sayajigunj, Nizampura, Sayajipura and Makarpura, ensuring efficient and uninterrupted bus services across the city.
