Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated electric bus services in Gandhinagar under the PM eBus Seva Scheme, aimed at enhancing eco-friendly public transportation in the state capital.
As part of the initiative, Gandhinagar has been sanctioned 100 electric buses, of which 40 fully air-conditioned buses have been introduced in the first phase. These buses will operate on regular routes, offering commuters a modern and sustainable travel option.
The service is being managed by Gandhinagar Greenline Transport Service Limited (GGTSL), a special purpose vehicle formed by the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation. The buses are equipped with Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs), allowing passengers to make seamless cashless payments through QR codes, UPI and other digital platforms.
To facilitate the operation of the fleet, a dedicated bus depot and charging station have been set up at Sargasan with an investment of Rs 17 crore.
The electric buses will run on 18 routes, connecting major government offices, residential areas and transport hubs. Key destinations covered include Pathik Ashram, the Secretariat, Gandhinagar Railway Station, Mahatma Mandir, GIFT City, Chiloda, Dahegam, Kadi, Kalol, Chandkheda, Dhamasan, Naradipur, Sonipur, Kotha, Adraj Moti, Tintoda, IIT Gandhinagar, Dabhoda and Mansa, significantly improving last-mile and inter-city connectivity for residents.
