The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast normal rainfall across Gujarat over the next seven days following the formation of a cyclonic circulation over parts of the state.
According to the IMD, the newly active weather system is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall to several districts during the coming week. South Gujarat, North Gujarat and parts of the Saurashtra region are likely to witness increased rain activity.
Temperatures to Remain Stable
The weather department said there is unlikely to be any significant change in maximum temperatures across the state over the next week. While intermittent rainfall is expected to provide some relief from the heat, temperatures are likely to remain largely stable.
Multiple Weather Systems Active
Explaining the current weather conditions, IMD scientist Pradeep Sharma said the cyclonic circulation that was earlier located over Pakistan and north Rajasthan has now shifted towards Punjab. At the same time, the trough extending from Madhya Pradesh to the Arabian Sea has moved towards Maharashtra.
He added that a fresh cyclonic circulation has developed over North Gujarat and Saurashtra, while another trough extends from Rajasthan to Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
“Due to the influence of these weather systems, Gujarat and Kutch are likely to receive scattered light to moderate rainfall over the next seven days. However, there is no warning for heavy rainfall at present,” Sharma said.
Rainfall Likely in North, South Gujarat and Saurashtra
Rainfall is expected mainly over North Gujarat, South Gujarat, coastal Saurashtra, Amreli and Bhavnagar, while comparatively less rain is likely in Central Gujarat.
During the last 24 hours, Mehsana recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 36 mm, while Botad received 10 mm.
Monsoon Likely to Advance Further
The IMD said the highest maximum temperatures recorded on Thursday were 40.5°C in Ahmedabad and 40°C in Rajkot, with Ahmedabad expected to remain around 41°C on Friday.
Southwesterly to westerly winds with speeds of 15 to 20 knots are prevailing over the region. The department has not issued any warning for fishermen at present.
Sharma added that the southwest monsoon line is currently passing through Surat and is expected to advance further over the next three to four days, covering more parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
