A potentially serious aviation incident was averted at Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday evening after an Air India aircraft mistakenly entered the wrong taxiway after landing and came face-to-face with an IndiGo plane preparing for departure, according to reports.
The incident occurred at around 8 pm when Air India flight AI2493 arrived from Mumbai and was taxiing towards its designated parking bay. According to reports citing sources, the aircraft had been instructed to follow a specific taxi route but inadvertently deviated from the assigned path and took a wrong turn.
As a result, the aircraft reportedly found itself directly opposite an IndiGo plane that was preparing to operate a flight from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.
Airport authorities, however, said the two aircraft remained at a safe distance from each other throughout the incident and that there was no risk of collision.
Air Traffic Control (ATC) promptly intervened to manage the situation and instructed the IndiGo aircraft to give way while corrective measures were taken. The Air India aircraft was subsequently repositioned and guided safely to its designated parking stand.
In a statement, Air India confirmed that flight AI2493 had inadvertently taken an incorrect turn while taxiing after landing. The airline emphasized that passenger and crew safety was never compromised at any stage.
Air India further stated that the aircraft was later towed back to the appropriate parking bay and that an internal investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances that led to the taxiing error.
No injuries were reported, and airport operations continued without any major disruption following the incident.
