In a significant relief for Aadhaar card holders, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that users will be able to update or change the email address linked to their Aadhaar free of cost for six months, from July 1 to December 31, 2026.
The facility will be available exclusively through the Aadhaar Mobile App as part of UIDAI’s efforts to encourage users to keep their Aadhaar details updated and secure.
Currently, updating an email address in Aadhaar records costs ₹75, including GST. During the six-month promotional period, users opting to make the change through the Aadhaar Mobile App will not be charged any fee. However, the standard charges will continue to apply for updates made through other channels.
UIDAI has emphasized the importance of linking a valid email address with Aadhaar, noting that it enables users to receive important notifications, alerts and updates related to their Aadhaar account.
A registered email ID also serves as a useful recovery tool. In cases where individuals misplace or forget their Aadhaar number or Enrollment ID, a verified email address can help retrieve the information online.
To verify their email ID, users can visit the UIDAI website, navigate to the “My Aadhaar” section and select the “Verify Email/Mobile Number” option. After entering their Aadhaar number, email address and captcha code, they can proceed with the verification process.
An OTP will be sent to the registered email address for authentication. Upon successful verification, users will receive an “Aadhaar Authentication Successful” message.
UIDAI has urged Aadhaar holders to take advantage of the free update facility and ensure their contact details remain current for enhanced security and seamless access to Aadhaar-related services.
