Mundra Airport entered the commercial aviation network on Tuesday as regional carrier Star Air launched scheduled flight services connecting the airport with key destinations across the country.
Currently, Star Air is the sole airline operating from Mundra, offering direct connectivity to Mumbai, Surat, Hindon and Mopa.
The inauguration of commercial services was marked by the arrival of a Star Air flight from Goa, which landed on the airport’s newly developed 1,900-metre runway, officially commencing scheduled passenger operations at Mundra Airport.
Speaking on the occasion, Jeet Adani, Chairman of Adani Airports, said flight connectivity from Mundra would be expanded in phases depending on passenger demand. He noted that the region has a growing need for improved air links, driven by frequent travel by business partners and employees, while tourism is also expected to generate significant demand in the future.
Simran Singh Tiwana, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Star Air, said Mundra has become the airline’s 32nd destination in India, further strengthening its regional network.
Tiwana added that Star Air currently maintains an on-time performance rate of 92 per cent and expects operations from Mundra to remain highly efficient due to comparatively lower air traffic congestion. He said the airline plans to gradually expand its services from the airport and anticipates strong punctuality levels because of the ease of securing landing and take-off slots.
The launch of commercial flights is expected to boost business travel, improve regional connectivity and support tourism and economic activity in the Kutch region.
