One person lost their life and several others were injured after a private bus overturned near Kariyana village on the Ahmedabad–Bhavnagar Expressway in Ahmedabad Rural district on Sunday evening.
The accident took place around 7.30 pm under the jurisdiction of Koth Police Station. According to preliminary information, the bus was travelling to Bhavnagar after passengers attended a family function in Ahmedabad. Around 25 passengers were on board when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle near Kariyana village, causing it to overturn.
Police said one passenger died in the mishap, while three to four others sustained serious injuries. Several other passengers suffered minor injuries.
After the accident, local residents informed police and emergency services. Rescue teams and police personnel reached the spot and launched an operation to evacuate passengers trapped inside the overturned bus.
All injured passengers were shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Dholka for treatment. Officials said those with serious injuries are being monitored and may be referred to higher medical facilities if necessary.
Police also managed traffic on the expressway and cleared the damaged vehicle from the road to restore normal movement.
Initial investigations suggest the driver lost control of the steering wheel. However, authorities said the exact cause of the accident, including the possibility of overspeeding, mechanical failure or driver fatigue, will be determined after a detailed probe.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
