The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for six districts of Gujarat, forecasting heavy rainfall at isolated places over the next 24 hours and urging residents to remain vigilant.
According to the latest weather bulletin, Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara and Chhota Udepur districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours.
In addition, the IMD has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty surface winds of 40-50 kmph and light to moderate rainfall in several districts, including Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Botad. Similar weather conditions are also expected in Diu.
Potential Impact
The weather department has cautioned that heavy rain may lead to flooding in low-lying areas and damage to kutcha roads.
Waterlogging in urban underpasses could disrupt traffic movement, while reduced visibility during intense rainfall may increase the risk of road accidents.
Authorities have been advised to ensure proper traffic management, and citizens have been urged to avoid waterlogged areas and exercise caution while travelling.
Rain Forecast for the Next Few Days
June 20:
Rainfall is likely in Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad districts, along with Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu. In the Saurashtra region, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Diu are also expected to receive rain.
June 21 and 22:
Isolated rainfall is forecast in Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad districts, as well as in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Similar weather conditions are expected in parts of Saurashtra, including Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Diu.
June 23 to 25:
Most parts of North Gujarat are likely to witness dry weather, while South Gujarat districts such as Surat, Navsari and Valsad are expected to continue receiving rainfall. Rain activity is also likely to persist in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
Temperature Outlook
The IMD has indicated that there is unlikely to be any significant change in maximum temperatures across Gujarat over the next seven days. Ahmedabad’s maximum temperature is expected to hover around 41 degrees Celsius during this period.
The department has advised residents to stay updated with weather forecasts and follow safety precautions during periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.
