In a major boost to Gujarat’s healthcare infrastructure, the state government has announced plans to establish a world-class Spine Institute, Sports Injury Centre and Rehabilitation Centre at Ahmedabad Medicity at an estimated cost of Rs 295 crore.
The project aims to address the growing burden of spinal disorders in the state while also catering to the medical needs arising from upcoming international sporting events. The facility will be equipped with advanced, international-standard healthcare and rehabilitation services.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Health, Praful Pansheriya, chaired a high-level review meeting in Gandhinagar on Wednesday to assess the planning and progress of the ambitious project.
Speaking after the meeting, Pansheriya said the institute would be a significant asset for athletes in Gujarat, providing access to world-class treatment and rehabilitation facilities within the state. He added that the government’s vision extends beyond healthcare delivery, aiming to position Gujarat as a global hub for sports medicine and spine care capable of meeting future healthcare challenges.
The minister also commended medical professionals in the state, noting that no infection cases have been reported in spine surgeries performed in Gujarat over the past three years.
According to officials, the proposed complex will offer comprehensive services for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of spinal disorders and sports-related injuries under one roof. The advanced Spine Institute will feature facilities for complex spine surgeries, specialised sports injury treatment and a state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre designed to support long-term recovery and patient care.
The project is expected to strengthen Gujarat’s healthcare ecosystem and enhance access to specialised medical services for both athletes and the general public.
