The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced a set of candidate-centric reforms for NEET UG 2026, aimed at improving the examination experience while maintaining fairness, transparency and security.
The changes will come into effect for NEET UG 2026, scheduled to be conducted on June 21, 2026. According to the NTA, the revisions have been made after taking into account feedback received from students over the years.
Exam duration extended
Among the major changes is the extension of the examination duration to 195 minutes. The test will now be held from 2 pm to 5:15 pm.
The NTA clarified that the additional time covers mandatory examination formalities, including attendance verification and invigilation procedures, ensuring that candidates do not lose valuable time meant for attempting the paper.
Officials said the revised schedule is designed to provide a smoother and less stressful examination experience without compromising the integrity of the test.
More space for rough work
The agency has also increased the space available for rough work in the question booklet. Students had repeatedly raised concerns about inadequate space for calculations and problem-solving during the examination.
According to the NTA, the additional space will help candidates, particularly in subjects that require extensive calculations, and is part of broader efforts to make the examination process more student-friendly.
Focus on student welfare
Reiterating its commitment to a fair and secure examination system, the NTA said the latest measures reflect its efforts to continuously refine exam processes based on stakeholder feedback.
NEET UG remains the country’s largest medical entrance examination and serves as the gateway for admission to undergraduate medical courses across India.
Candidates advised to stay updated
The NTA has advised candidates to carefully review the revised guidelines and examination schedule. Detailed instructions regarding admit cards, examination procedures and other operational aspects will be issued through official channels ahead of the test.
With a longer examination window and improved provisions for rough work, the agency hopes to provide a more comfortable and efficient testing environment for NEET UG 2026 aspirants.
