Ahead of the monsoon season, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has identified 25 underpasses across the city as flood-prone and issued a public advisory urging citizens to avoid them whenever they are closed due to waterlogging or maintenance work.
The civic body warned that several underpasses become inundated even during moderate rainfall, creating safety hazards and causing traffic disruptions. Motorists and pedestrians have been advised to use alternative routes whenever access to these underpasses is restricted.
According to AMC, warning gates will be shut whenever water accumulates in an underpass or when cleaning and maintenance operations are underway. Citizens have been asked to strictly follow these restrictions and avoid entering closed passages.
Officials stated that anyone choosing to enter a closed underpass despite warnings would be doing so at their own risk and responsibility. The civic body has urged commuters to cooperate and follow designated diversion routes for their safety.
The advisory comes as Ahmedabad gears up for the monsoon, a period often marked by concerns over waterlogging, potholes and traffic management across the city.
The list of flood-prone underpasses includes Stadium, Usmanpura, Akhbarnagar, Naranpura, Maninagar (South), Parimal, Kubernagar, Mithakhali, GST, Kaligam DEMU, Jalaram (Paldi), Kaligam Garnala, Sabarmati D-Cabin, along with several railway and level-crossing underpasses on the Ahmedabad-Botad and Khodiyar railway routes.
