South Gujarat’s popular hill station, Wilson Hill, is set for a major upgrade as the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL) has launched an eco-tourism development project worth nearly ₹10 crore. The initiative aims to boost tourism while preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of the region.
The project, estimated at ₹9.99 crore (excluding GST), is expected to be completed within 16 months. It will introduce modern visitor facilities, adventure activities, nature trails and improved infrastructure to enhance the overall tourist experience. TCGL has invited bids for the execution of the project.
Modern Visitor Information Centre
A state-of-the-art Visitor Information Centre will be established as the main tourist assistance and administrative hub. The facility will feature a reception area, administrative office, powder room and a large shaded seating space where visitors can relax and obtain information about the destination. The centre will also offer scenic views of the surrounding landscape.
Food Court and Public Amenities
To accommodate rising tourist footfall, the project includes a food court with 10 individual outlets, each equipped with its own kitchen and service area. The food court will be developed around a landscaped central gathering space designed for families and groups.
Modern public facilities will also be created, including separate toilet blocks for men and women, accessible toilets for persons with disabilities, ramps and drinking water stations.
Focus on Adventure Tourism
Adventure and outdoor recreation will be among the key attractions of the revamped destination. Planned facilities include:
- Adventure activity zone
- Children’s play area
- Camping and tent zones
- Jungle trails through forest areas
- Bird-watching zones
- Scenic gazebos and viewpoints
The new attractions are expected to draw trekkers, nature enthusiasts, photographers and adventure seekers from across Gujarat and neighbouring states.
Nature Trails and Eco-Friendly Experiences
A highlight of the project is a specially designed elevated walking trail built on a gabion wall, offering visitors a unique trekking experience while blending with the natural terrain.
Other proposed features include:
- A 2-metre-wide jungle trail
- A 2.5-metre-wide walking trail
- Multiple forest viewpoints
- Bird observation zones
- Landscaped open spaces
These facilities are aimed at promoting sustainable tourism while allowing visitors to explore the area’s rich natural heritage.
Infrastructure and Connectivity Improvements
The project also includes major infrastructure upgrades to improve accessibility and safety within the tourist destination. Planned works include:
- A 6-metre-wide main road
- A 4-metre-wide service road
- Bridge construction
- Safety and protective structures
- Site development and landscaping
Expanded Parking Facilities
To address increasing visitor numbers, a new parking area will be developed with space for:
- 64 cars
- 70 two-wheelers
- Dedicated bus parking
The expanded parking infrastructure is expected to ease congestion during weekends and peak tourist seasons.
Boost for Tourism and Local Economy
The eco-tourism project is expected to strengthen Gujarat’s tourism sector while creating employment and business opportunities for local communities through hospitality, tourism services and related activities.
Once completed, the upgraded Wilson Hill is expected to emerge as one of Gujarat’s leading eco-tourism destinations, further enhancing the tourism profile of Valsad district and attracting more visitors from across the country.
