The Ahmedabad Traffic Police issued memos to 1,030 motorists for driving on the wrong side during a special enforcement campaign conducted across the city on June 4 and 5, officials said.
The drive was aimed at improving traffic discipline and reducing violations that pose serious risks to road safety.
According to police, action was taken against motorists found driving on the wrong side, engaging in dangerous driving and committing other traffic offences during the two-day operation.
A total of 1,030 motorists were penalised for wrong-side driving, while four others faced action for dangerous driving and related violations.
Officials said the enforcement drive resulted in the collection of ₹20.16 lakh in fines. Three vehicles were also detained as part of the operation.
In addition, legal action was initiated against 156 motorists under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA). The offenders were detained as part of the enforcement proceedings.
Police said the crackdown forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and ensure stricter compliance with traffic regulations across Ahmedabad.
