AMC Issues Notices to 37 Hotels Over Fire Safety Violations After Delhi Blaze

In the wake of the recent hotel fire tragedy in Delhi, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has intensified fire safety inspections across the city. During a surprise inspection drive, civic authorities found several hotels violating fire safety norms and issued notices to 37 establishments.

According to AMC officials, the highest number of notices — 12 — were issued in the South Zone. The Central Zone accounted for nine notices, followed by six in the West Zone, five in the North-West Zone, four in the South-West Zone, and one in the North Zone. No violations were reported during inspections in the East Zone.

The inspection teams checked the availability and condition of firefighting equipment, emergency exits, Fire No Objection Certificates (NOCs), and other mandatory safety measures. Hotels found lacking in compliance have been directed to rectify the deficiencies and adhere to prescribed fire safety standards.

Officials said the drive was launched as a precautionary measure following the Delhi incident and is aimed at strengthening fire safety preparedness across Ahmedabad.

The AMC has also clarified that the inspection campaign is not limited to hotels. Similar checks are being carried out at commercial establishments and other public-use buildings. The Fire and Emergency Services Department is reviewing fire protection systems, evacuation arrangements, and overall compliance with safety regulations.

Authorities said the inspection drive will continue in the coming days to ensure public safety and reduce the risk of fire-related incidents across the city.
