In a major development in Gujarat’s police administration, the state government has appointed Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Gyanendra Singh Malik as the new Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP) of Gujarat with immediate effect.
According to a notification issued by the Home Department, Government of Gujarat, Malik, a 1993-batch IPS officer, has been appointed to the apex-level post of Director General and Inspector General of Police in the state’s police force.
Malik takes over the position nearly six months after the retirement of former DGP Vikas Sahay, who superannuated on December 31, 2025. Following Sahay’s retirement, Dr. K. Lakshmi Narayan Rao, a 1992-batch IPS officer and Director General of Police, CID (Crime and Railways), had been holding additional charge as the state’s top police officer.
The latest notification formally fills the vacancy, making Malik the regular head of the Gujarat Police. The appointment order was issued from the State Secretariat in Gandhinagar and signed by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dr. Anju Sharma.
