The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that the existing mAadhaar app will soon be discontinued and has asked users to switch to the newly launched Aadhaar App, which offers faster access, smarter tools and a more seamless digital identity experience.
In an official statement, UIDAI said the new app is designed to simplify Aadhaar-related services and allow users to manage several functions directly from their smartphones, reducing the need to visit physical centres for routine updates.
What’s New In The Aadhaar App?
According to details available on the Google Play Store, the new Aadhaar App introduces several upgraded features that UIDAI describes as part of a “new era of digital identity”.
One of the key additions is the ability to update Aadhaar details directly through the app. Users can now access services such as mobile number updates, address changes and family member request management using SRN numbers.
The app also includes a QR code-based “Contact Card” feature that allows users to securely share authenticated Aadhaar-linked contact details quickly and safely.
Another major feature lets users lock or unlock their biometric data and check Aadhaar authentication history directly through the app, giving them greater control over privacy and security.
The platform also supports managing multiple Aadhaar profiles on a single device and introduces a “Selective Share” option, allowing users to choose which information they want to share.
Details including name, photograph, date of birth, age status, gender and mobile number can now be shared selectively as needed.
UIDAI has advised existing mAadhaar users to download the new Aadhaar App soon, as the older application is expected to be phased out in the coming months.
