The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Monday submitted a memorandum to the dean of NHL Medical College, demanding strict action after a video allegedly showing interns consuming liquor inside the college hostel surfaced on social media.
The student body also alleged that the boys’ hostel warden was helping students procure liquor.
Following protests by ABVP members, in-charge dean Jayshree Pethani said the authenticity of the video and the exact location were yet to be verified. She added that an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the allegations and further action will be taken based on its findings.
ABVP further claimed that the hostel warden was charging students Rs 10,000 to permit the use of air-conditioners and water coolers in hostel rooms, despite such appliances being banned under hostel rules.
ABVP leader Dhrumil Akhani said a detailed inquiry should be conducted to ensure that no institutional rules were being violated on educational campuses.
Pethani also stated that nearly 50 students allegedly found using prohibited appliances in hostel rooms had already been warned and issued notices by the administration.
