A 29-year-old passenger died after suffering a medical emergency aboard an IndiGo flight travelling from Ahmedabad to Ranchi, prompting an emergency landing in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Sudip Kumar Gaunish, was reportedly battling a severe lung ailment and had travelled to Ahmedabad with his sister for medical treatment. He boarded the IndiGo Airbus A320 flight at 11.15 am and was expected to arrive in Ranchi by 1.25 pm.
During the flight, while the aircraft was passing over Jabalpur, Sudip’s health suddenly worsened after he developed acute breathing difficulties. His sister, along with fellow passengers, immediately informed the cabin crew. Following the medical emergency, the pilot sought urgent clearance from Air Traffic Control at Dumna Airport and landed the aircraft at around 1.01 pm.
After landing, airport authorities arranged an ambulance and shifted Sudip to a private hospital in Jabalpur for treatment. The flight later resumed its journey to Ranchi after a delay of nearly 50 minutes. However, despite medical efforts, Sudip died during treatment later that night. Following the incident, his family members left Jabalpur for Ranchi by road.
