A major fire broke out on the third floor of the Solitaire Corporate Building on SG Highway on Thursday afternoon, creating panic in the area as the flames quickly spread to the upper floors.
Fire officials rushed multiple teams to the spot and launched a large-scale operation to control the blaze.
According to preliminary information, the fire is suspected to have started due to a short circuit. Officials said the blaze began on the third floor and later spread to the fourth and fifth floors, causing major damage inside the building.
Considering the seriousness of the incident, nearly 10 fire tenders along with a hydraulic platform were deployed for rescue and firefighting operations.
Authorities initially feared that some people might be trapped inside the building, prompting firefighters to carry out rescue efforts on priority.
Thick smoke was seen rising from the upper floors as firefighters used water jets to contain the flames. Due to the intensity of the fire, several glass panels of the building shattered, attracting large crowds from nearby areas.
Senior officials, including the Chief Fire Officer, also reached the site to monitor the operation.
Firefighters continued efforts to stop the fire from spreading further and prevent a major tragedy.
