The Income Tax Department has launched a large-scale awareness campaign to educate taxpayers about the new Income-Tax Act, 2025, starting with the “Prarambh 2026” mega event held in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Similar awareness programmes will now be organised at 18 more locations across Gujarat.
The event, organised by the office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Gujarat, saw participation from senior IRS officers, taxpayers, chartered accountants and other professionals to discuss compliance and taxpayer support under the new law.
Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Gujarat, Satish Sharma, said the share of income tax in the Centre’s revenue has increased from 18-20% to more than 53%, while the highest tax rate has come down from nearly 60% to 30%.
Former ICAI president CA Aniket Sunil Talati said “I-T” now represents “Innovative and Inclusive Tax,” adding that chartered accountants play the role of ambassadors between taxpayers and the department.
