After introducing QR codes for pani puri vendors, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has now rolled out a QR code-based customer feedback system for nearly 3,500 street food vendors and food stalls across the city to strengthen food safety and hygiene standards.
Under the new system, customers can scan QR codes displayed at stalls and submit ratings and feedback regarding food quality, cleanliness and service. AMC officials will review the feedback on a weekly basis.
Consumers will be able to rate vendors on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 representing excellent hygiene and food quality, while 1 reflects a poor experience. Customers can also submit complaints and suggestions related to taste, sanitation and service standards.
According to AMC officials, vendors repeatedly receiving ratings below 3 will be issued formal warnings. Access to customer reviews is also expected to help vendors identify areas requiring improvement.
The civic body has warned that food vendors failing to display QR codes may face action from the health department, including penalties and possible sealing of premises.
AMC said the initiative is aimed at increasing transparency and encouraging better hygiene practices among food operators, ultimately benefiting public health.
Encouraged by the initial response, the civic body plans to expand the QR code feedback mechanism to major hotels and restaurants across Ahmedabad in the coming months.
