The Amdavad Municipal Corporation has issued Orange and Yellow heat alerts for Ahmedabad city over the next seven days under its Heat Action Plan, warning that temperatures could rise up to 43°C, based on forecasts by the India Meteorological Department.
According to the IMD forecast, Ahmedabad is expected to record maximum temperatures of around 43°C between May 18 and May 20, while minimum temperatures are likely to remain between 28°C and 29°C. An Orange alert has been issued for these three days due to the likelihood of heatwave conditions.
From May 21 to May 25, temperatures are expected to remain high at around 42°C, for which a Yellow alert has been announced.
As part of its Heat Action Plan, AMC has partnered with Satleo Labs to develop a forecasting system based on satellite-derived Land Surface Temperature (LST) data. The system uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)-based algorithms to analyse temperature patterns at a detailed 30×30 metre pixel level and identify areas likely to experience extreme heat.
Regions expected to record unusually high temperatures are categorised as “hotspots.” Officials said the forecast data is available up to three days in advance, with a possible temperature variation of 2–3°C.
The information is regularly updated through a dedicated online platform and QR code-based access system provided by the civic body.
