A shocking case has surfaced from Morbi, where a man allegedly allowed his landlord and one of the landlord’s relatives to repeatedly sexually assault his wife and 13-year-old daughter after he failed to pay house rent.
According to police, the complaint was lodged on May 1 by the victim woman’s mother at the Morbi City A Division Police Station under various sections of the BNS and the POCSO Act against the tenant husband, the landlord and the landlord’s relative.
Police said the 55-year-old landlord was produced before a court on Thursday and was remanded to one-day police custody for interrogation. After completion of the remand period, he was sent to judicial custody. Morbi City A Division Police Inspector Y B Jadeja said the tenant husband had already been arrested earlier and is currently lodged in jail. The landlord has also been sent to jail.
Officials added that police are searching for other relatives of the landlord who allegedly helped in the crime. Investigators have completed the panchnama of the crime scene and conducted medical examinations of both the victims and the accused. Police said scientific evidence has also been collected in connection with the case.
According to the complaint filed by the victims’ mother and grandmother, the family had moved to Morbi around six months ago in search of work. The husband had rented a house for ₹2,000 per month, but as his business suffered losses, the pending rent amount continued to rise.
Police said the complaint alleges that with the consent of the husband, the landlord sexually assaulted the minor girl, who was 13 years and seven months old at the time. The accused landlord allegedly assaulted both the complainant’s daughter and granddaughter at multiple locations, including his own house, the rented accommodation and Tankara. The landlord’s relative has also been accused of sexually assaulting the complainant’s daughter.
