Rs 330 crore cleared by Gujarat for upgrading 108 government schools.

The Gujarat government has approved an allocation of Rs 330 crore for the construction, repair and infrastructure development of 108 government secondary and higher secondary schools across the state during the financial year 2026-27.

The funding follows earlier budget announcements for new school buildings, compound walls and renovation work in government and model schools, including institutions functioning under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).

As per a resolution issued by the Education Department, RS 177 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of 69 schools in non-tribal areas, while Rs 23 crore has been allocated for building compound walls in 76 schools. Another Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for repair work in 14 schools.

For tribal regions, the government has approved Rs 44 crore for constructing 17 schools, Rs 31.68 crore for compound wall projects in 32 schools and Rs 4.32 crore for repairs in six schools.

Additionally, Rs 40 crore has been sanctioned under a special component scheme for the construction of 22 schools.

Officials said the move would benefit 108 schools that have so far been operating from primary school buildings or temporary premises due to inadequate infrastructure. These schools are expected to receive dedicated buildings within the next year, after which they will shift to the new facilities.

Out of the 69 schools planned in non-tribal regions, 14 are located in Ahmedabad district. Officials said land acquisition for these schools had remained pending for a long time despite approvals from the rural District Education Officer.

Authorities added that 22 schools in Ahmedabad district had been functioning from alternative premises. Land has now been allotted to 15 schools, while construction approval has been granted for 14 institutions.

The government has approved an expenditure of nearly Rs 3.2 crore per school for these 14 projects, taking the total allocation for Ahmedabad district to Rs 44.80 crore.
