Ahmedabad Gears up for Census 2027 with New Training and Digital Self-Enumeration

Ahmedabad is gearing up for the upcoming Census 2027, launching an extensive training initiative involving 12,000 enumerators and 2,000 supervisors. Training sessions are currently being held in schools and community halls across all 48 wards of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

So far, about 7,500 personnel have completed their training. Officials expect to wrap up the entire program by May 21, 2026. Once trained, these teams will kick off the first phase of the census—household listing and house numbering—from June 1 to June 30, 2026.

In a notable shift for this national census, the Government of India has launched a Self Enumeration portal at se.census.gov.in. This online platform allows citizens to submit their household information voluntarily. Residents can easily share details about their homes, amenities available, assets they own, and more through a secure digital interface.

The self-enumeration window in Gujarat runs from May 17 to May 31, 2026. This initiative aims not only to boost participation but also to enhance data accuracy while lessening the workload for field enumerators.

This exercise is crucial for Census 2027 as it will gather essential socio-economic data that will inform future planning and development efforts. State officials have urged residents to make use of the self-enumeration portal during this period to facilitate smoother operations and improve data quality.
