RAJKOT: A devastating accident early Thursday morning left four passengers dead and ten others injured when a private luxury bus caught fire after colliding with a tanker in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district.
The crash happened around 1:30 am near Sangani village along the Chotila-Rajkot National Highway, as reported by deputy superintendent of police SS Bhadoriya. The bus was en route from Ahmedabad to Rajkot when it struck an asphalt-filled tanker that was ahead of it.
Following the collision, flames engulfed the bus almost immediately. “Four passengers were burnt alive in the collision,” said deputy collector HT Makwana. Fortunately, several other passengers managed to escape the inferno. There were approximately 40 people on board at the time of the incident.
The injured individuals were transported to Rajkot Civil Hospital for treatment, while authorities sent the deceased’s bodies to Chotila Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations.
Firefighters quickly responded to the emergency and successfully brought the blaze under control. As investigations continue, officials are focusing on understanding how such a tragic event unfolded.
