Just days after Ahmedabad witnessed prolonged water cuts due to repair work on the Narmada Canal network, several parts of the city are likely to face fresh disruption in water supply following a major leakage in the main pipeline connected to the Jaspur Water Treatment Plant.
According to the Amdavad Municipal Corporation, an 800 mm diameter water pipeline developed a leakage near a showroom located between Prahladnagar and Anandnagar crossroads.
Officials said repair work would begin after the morning water supply on May 12. During the maintenance operation, the branch line valve near Prahladnagar Junction will remain shut.
Due to the repair work, water supply in several areas under the Vejalpur and Jodhpur wards will be provided only based on available quantity.
The affected localities are expected to include Prahladnagar, Shraddha, Pramukh, Gokul Awas, Sarabhai area, Shaivali, Salpara, Suryanagar, Baldevnagar and areas connected to the Dewas Water Distribution Station.
The latest disruption comes soon after residents across five zones of Ahmedabad faced nearly 10 days of water cuts because of ongoing repairs in the Narmada Canal system.
Civic authorities said efforts are underway to minimise inconvenience through alternative water arrangements across the city.
Officials stated that nearly 1,050 MLD (million litres per day) of water is currently being supplied from Kotarpur Water Works. Additional supply is being managed through operational borewells at various water distribution stations, along with around 220 MLD of water from Raska.
Authorities also said water from the Jaspur Water Treatment Plant continues to be supplied to areas including Sabarmati, Chandkheda and Motera.
