Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport is gearing up for a major upgrade with a new air traffic control (ATC) tower that will stand over 93 meters tall. This new structure will be the second-tallest ATC tower in India, following the 103-meter tower at Delhi airport.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the civil aviation ministry have given their nod to the project’s land allocation and design plans. A plot situated behind the existing AAI office has been earmarked for this ambitious construction. Currently, Mumbai’s ATC tower holds the title of the second tallest in the country at 84 meters.
This development is part of SVPI Airport’s broader 2030 Development Plan. That plan not only includes this towering addition but also outlines plans for a new integrated terminal and an expansion of Terminal 1, aimed at accommodating growing passenger numbers.
Once operational, there’s word that the current ATC tower will be decommissioned and ultimately dismantled. This step is intended to make room for future terminal expansions.
