The Ahmedabad Traffic Police has implemented a new traffic management system at the busy Nana Chiloda Circle to reduce frequent traffic jams in the eastern part of the city.
Known as one of the main entry points to Ahmedabad, the junction handles lakhs of vehicles every day and has long faced heavy congestion, especially during peak hours.
Under the new arrangement, police have shut two major cuts near the circle that were causing traffic bottlenecks and slowing vehicle movement.
To improve traffic flow, a new cut has been opened around 200 metres ahead on the road towards Naroda GIDC. Another alternative route has also been created on the left side below the bridge for vehicles travelling from Nana Chiloda towards the Ring Road.
Officials said the changes were made after discussions with traffic and infrastructure experts to redesign movement at the junction more efficiently.
The city police commissioner also visited the spot to review the traffic situation and gave necessary instructions to officials during the inspection.
According to the traffic police, the revised system has already helped improve vehicle movement. Areas that earlier saw delays of 20 to 30 minutes during rush hours are now reportedly experiencing smoother traffic flow.
