Confusion and concern have gripped parents of students at Seventh Day Adventist School in Ahmedabad after reports that the school’s administration—previously taken over by education authorities following a student’s death—has been temporarily handed back to the management ahead of the new academic session.
The development has sparked anxiety among parents over the institution’s registration status, with many questioning whether admissions should proceed amid fears that recognition could still be revoked.
Members of the Vali Janakrosh Sangharsh Samiti, a parents’ action committee, approached school authorities seeking clarity and demanding written assurances that the school’s registration would remain valid after payment of substantial admission fees.
Parents said the uncertainty has placed families in a difficult position, as they risk financial loss if regulatory action is taken later.“We want assurance that admissions are being granted only if there is no possibility of the registration being cancelled,” a parent associated with the committee said.
The District Education Officer (DEO) had earlier assumed control of the school’s administration following the student’s death, which brought the institution under scrutiny.
However, with the new academic session approaching, day-to-day operations have reportedly been returned to the management on an interim basis.
Responding to the concerns, school spokesperson Varli Chauhan said the management had met with the parents’ committee and was acting in the best interests of students. “We work for the students. Their safety is our top priority,” Chauhan said. However, when asked about documentary proof or official confirmation of the school’s regulatory status, the spokesperson did not provide a clear response.
Parents have urged both authorities and the school management to issue a formal clarification on the institution’s recognition and registration before the admission process moves forward. The issue is likely to remain under scrutiny as the academic session begins and parents await a definitive stance from education authorities.
