The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to introduce a QR code-based feedback system for food and beverage outlets, starting with panipuri vendors. The move will allow customers to share feedback on food quality and hygiene standards.
Officials said the initiative aims to improve food safety and curb water-borne diseases in the city.
AMC Health Officer Dr. Tejas Shah said QR codes will be placed on panipuri carts across Ahmedabad, enabling customers to report on the quality of food and water served.
According to AMC, there are over 1,500 panipuri vendors in the city. During a recent drive, around 1,600 samples—including water, flour, gram flour, and other ingredients—were collected for laboratory testing.
The civic body is also planning to develop dedicated software linked to the QR system, allowing users to share their feedback and observations easily.
Officials added that the system will eventually be expanded to cover all food and beverage outlets in Ahmedabad.
However, the move has faced criticism from some residents, who feel that ensuring food safety should primarily remain the responsibility of the civic authorities and their health department, rather than consumers.
