The civic body in Surat has found six samples of ghee and ice cream to be unsafe or substandard during inspections carried out across the city, according to an official release.
As part of the drive, samples were collected from various shops selling ghee and ice cream within the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) limits and tested at a public health laboratory.
Officials said all six samples failed to meet the standards set under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
At New Adinath Dairy Product Godown in Kosad, four ghee samples were found to be non-compliant. Three brands were declared unsafe due to high trans-fat levels, while another was labelled substandard due to the presence of beta-sitosterol.
At Shiv Kailash Ice Cream & Juice Parlour in City Light, a vanilla ice cream sample was found substandard because of low milk fat content and below-standard BR (butyro-refractometer) readings.
Similarly, a malai pista ice cream sample from Cafe Desire on Udhna-Magdalla Road was also declared substandard due to insufficient milk fat content.
Authorities said further action will be taken against the concerned establishments as per the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act and related rules.
