The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat on Tuesday caught a CGST Superintendent and a tax consultant in a ₹20 lakh bribery case.
The accused are Mukesh Kumar (43), a Superintendent in CGST Division-1, Rajkot, and Akash Kaloliya (33), a tax consultant.
According to ACB, the officer had demanded ₹25 lakh from a person to settle a GST-related case and avoid strict action. After talks, the deal was fixed at ₹20 lakh to be paid through the consultant.
The complainant refused to pay and informed ACB. Acting on the complaint, ACB set a trap in Rajkot. During the operation, the consultant contacted the complainant and accepted ₹20 lakh on behalf of the officer.
Both were caught red-handed while taking the bribe. Further investigation is ongoing.
