At least six people lost their lives and six others were seriously injured in a tragic road accident on National Highway 48 in North Gujarat on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place near Jawangadh Patiya, close to Himmatnagar, when a speeding private bus crashed into a car from behind. The impact was so strong that the car was completely crushed, killing all six passengers on the spot.
According to initial reports, the victims were from Sardoi village in Modasa and were travelling towards Koop at the time of the accident.
The injured were taken to Himmatnagar Civil Hospital in 108 ambulances and are currently undergoing treatment. Police from Gambhoi station reached the spot, sent the bodies for post-mortem, and started an investigation.
The accident caused temporary traffic disruption on the Shamlaji–Ahmedabad highway, which was later cleared using cranes.
Preliminary investigation suggests the accident may have occurred due to an illegal opening in the highway divider. Officials believe the car was trying to cross through the unauthorised gap when the bus hit it from behind.
Locals have raised concerns, saying such illegal cuts and unsafe crossings are common on this stretch and pose serious risks.
