In a brazen daytime heist, four to five armed men looted nearly ₹50 lakh from a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Surat’s Varachha area on Monday.
According to initial reports, the robbery occurred in the afternoon when customer presence was low. The suspects entered the bank, threatened staff at gunpoint, and swiftly made off with the cash within minutes. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Following the alert, senior officials from Surat Police reached the scene and launched a large-scale operation. Key routes in and out of the city have been sealed, and seven teams comprising Crime Branch personnel and local police units from Varachha, Kapodra, Sarthana, and Puna have been deployed to track down the culprits.
Investigators have collected CCTV footage from the bank and surrounding areas, which is said to show the suspects’ movements.
Efforts are ongoing to identify the accused, and police have initiated a manhunt, expressing confidence of making arrests soon.
