LG University assistant professor files dowry case against husband and in-laws in Ahmedabad

An assistant professor from Ahmedabad has filed a complaint with the Khadia police, alleging prolonged physical and mental harassment, dowry demands, and domestic abuse by her husband and in-laws during the course of her marriage.

According to police, the 28-year-old faculty member of New LG University has accused her husband, Tejas Solanki, along with her mother-in-law Manjulben, sister-in-law Pallaviben, and brother-in-law Jatin Raizada, of repeatedly subjecting her to cruelty and demanding dowry.

In her complaint, the woman stated that she first connected with her husband via Instagram in 2023, after which they entered into a relationship and registered their marriage in April 2024. A traditional Hindu ceremony was later conducted in January 2025 with the consent of both families.

She alleged that the relationship began to deteriorate within a month of marriage, claiming that her husband frequently demanded money and turned violent when questioned about his employment and finances. She further stated that her mother-in-law supported him during disputes, while other family members also participated in the harassment.

The complainant added that after the couple moved to a rented house in Gandhinagar in June 2025, her husband was arrested in connection with another criminal case in Surat and was later released with assistance from her and her father.

She further alleged that the in-laws later called them back to their residence in Ghatlodia and demanded 20 tolas of gold from her parental home, claiming that the dowry given at the time of marriage was insufficient.

The woman stated that the continued harassment forced her to leave the matrimonial home and return to her parents on March 5 this year.

Khadia Police Station has registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway.
