The underpass near Sabras Hotel, popularly known as Sabras Garnala on Lambe Hanuman Road, has reopened for traffic from Tuesday after remaining shut for a long period due to redevelopment work at Surat Railway Station and Metro Rail construction.
The reopening is expected to bring major relief to thousands of commuters travelling from Varachha and nearby areas towards the railway station and Delhi Gate, helping reduce long-standing traffic congestion.
Earlier, the underpass was closed due to flyover and metro work by SITCO, forcing motorists to take a longer route via Ayurvedic Garnala, which often led to heavy traffic jams.According to the traffic department, the underpass has now been opened for small vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers and cars.
Officials said the move will improve traffic flow on key routes, reduce pressure on roads connecting Varachha to Kamrej, and ease congestion near Sahara Darwaza. Commuters can now directly access Delhi Gate and the railway station through the underpass.
Authorities believe the reopening will significantly cut travel time and help decongest the busy station area.
