In a bid to tackle rising traffic congestion, Ahmedabad Police has made a key 140-metre stretch on the overbridge above the Nirnaynagar underpass one-way, after consultations with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).The overbridge, connecting Chandlodia, Umiya Hall and Nirnaynagar to the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, had become a major bottleneck due to its narrow width and heavy two-way traffic.
Under the new arrangement, vehicles will now be allowed to move only from Chandlodia, Umiya Hall and Nirnaynagar towards the sports complex. Commuters travelling in the opposite direction will have to take a U-turn at the Umiya Hall three-road junction.The order, issued under Section 33 of the Gujarat Police Act, came into effect from midnight on April 21.
Violators will face action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 131 of the Gujarat Police Act.
Police officials have been authorised to strictly enforce the new traffic rule to ensure smoother movement and reduce congestion in the area.
