Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) food safety officers recently conducted inspections at 264 food businesses throughout the city, targeting paneer quality. The week-long initiative focused on various establishments, including manufacturers, restaurants, and street food vendors.
The inspection teams zeroed in on areas known for a high density of eateries potentially using paneer analogues. According to VMC officials, the checks included evaluations of 11 paneer manufacturers, 165 restaurants, 28 dhabas, and 46 street vendors.
During these inspections, samples were collected from both raw paneer and prepared dishes. Notably, nine samples were sent to the civic body’s public health laboratory for thorough testing. In addition to sampling efforts, officials seized a significant amount—17.4 kilograms—of paneer from one manufacturing unit.
If testing reveals that this seized lot fails quality standards, it will be destroyed immediately. Furthermore, action could be taken against the responsible manufacturer based on the test results.
