A Class 8 student sustained a serious eye injury after being struck with a compass during a scuffle among classmates at Isanpur Public School on Narol–Vatva Road in Ahmedabad.
The incident took place on April 20 shortly after examinations ended around 11:30 am. According to police and the student’s family, two students were involved in an argument when a third student stepped in to intervene. During the altercation, one of the students allegedly attacked him with a compass, injuring his eye.
The incident caused panic on the school premises, prompting teachers to respond immediately. The injured student was first taken to LG Hospital and later shifted to Civil Hospital in Asarwa, where he underwent surgery. He is currently under medical supervision.
The student’s father has filed a complaint at Narol Police Station, and a case has been registered against the accused. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), which manages the school, has sought a preliminary report. Dr. L.D. Desai, Executive Officer of the Municipal Primary Education Committee, said an inquiry has been assigned to the Assistant Executive Officer of the South Zone.
Initial findings suggest the altercation may not have started inside the classroom, and authorities are working to verify the sequence of events. A joint investigation by the education committee and the police is underway.
Family members said the student suffered injuries to the upper and inner parts of the eye. While the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, early indications point to a personal disagreement.
Narol Police Inspector J.B. Agrawat confirmed that the student was injured while intervening in a fight between classmates. Further investigation is in progress.
