Panic erupted in Ablod village, Garbada taluka, after over 400 wedding guests fell ill following a meal on Monday evening. Symptoms reported included severe diarrhea and vomiting.
The wedding festivities kicked off around 6 pm, drawing a large crowd. But shortly after consuming the food, many attendees experienced discomfort. The situation quickly spiraled into an emergency as medical personnel mobilized.
First responders set up makeshift medical facilities within the village while patients were transported to hospitals via ambulances and private vehicles. Around 200 individuals found care at various private hospitals, while another group of about 200 received treatment locally from a specialized team of doctors.
Thankfully, there have been no fatalities reported so far—though some patients remain in critical condition and are under close watch by medical staff.
Upon notification of the incident, officials from both the district health department and food safety department arrived on-site to investigate. Preliminary findings indicate that food poisoning might have stemmed from mango juice (aamras) and paneer curry served during the event.
Health authorities promptly collected food samples for laboratory testing. They also stated that if negligence is discovered among caterers or other involved parties, strict legal action will follow under the Food and Drugs Act.
