Youth Congress says poll-related work could delay access to required documents The state education department has extended the deadline for submitting online applications for Class 1 admissions under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) for the 2026 academic year.
While the original deadline ended on April 17, parents can now apply online until April 23. However, many believe the extension may offer limited relief due to ongoing election-related administrative engagements.
Subhan Saiyed, spokesperson for the Gujarat Pradesh Youth Congress, said the revised deadline is inadequate in view of the election schedule. With polling scheduled for April 26 and counting on April 28, several government offices are currently occupied with election duties. This has led to reduced availability of officials responsible for issuing essential certificates and documents required for RTE applications.
He pointed out that if the admission process concludes during this period, many eligible families may miss out due to incomplete paperwork. “Applicants under RTE could suffer simply because they are unable to secure the necessary documents on time,” he said.Saiyed also urged authorities to announce a fresh admission schedule after the elections, ensuring applicants get a fair chance to complete the process without administrative disruptions.
