Tensions flared at a private nursing college in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati area on Thursday as students staged a protest, alleging irregular fee collection and inadequate facilities on campus.
Students of Medilink Nursing College, joined by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), demonstrated against the management, accusing it of charging hostel fees despite not providing on-campus accommodation.
According to the students, they were informed during admission that hostel seats were limited but were assured that arrangements would be made. However, they were later placed in private paying guest (PG) accommodations while still being billed for hostel facilities.
The protesters also alleged that an additional monthly fee of ₹4,000 was being collected, along with charges for transportation during internships, which they claimed was either insufficient or not provided at all.
Further grievances included the alleged collection of money for books and study materials without issuing proper receipts or supplying the promised resources.
The protest intensified as ABVP members raised slogans, put up posters across the campus, and reportedly disrupted the power supply. The situation escalated when the college management allegedly attempted to shut the premises, leading to agitators forcing their way inside.
ABVP representatives accused the institution of extracting large sums from students through unfair practices and demanded immediate action. Following the unrest, the college management reportedly assured that the concerns would be addressed through dialogue.
